Victims of Terrorism in Quetta
Hazara people in the city of Quetta in Pakistan are the second, third and fourth generation of the Hazaras who during the attack of King Abdul Rahman in 1890 fled to Pakistan. Most of the first Hazaras taking refuge in Pakistan settled and made Quetta their new home. Since then, the Hazaras have kept a quiet life here.
In 2003, the Hazara people of Quetta were attacked by the Taliban / Lashkar-e-Jangwi for the first time after a long peaceful life they have had in Pakistan. In July of that year, twelve police officers were targeted in the western part of Quetta as they were on their recruitment ceremony in a Pickup truck. From that time until 2021, more than 1000 Hazaras have been killed in the province of Baluchistan in various places, but mostly in central Quetta. They have been attacked in different ways and in different times. The latest attack was on the 11 coal miners whose necks were cut off while they were asleep in their caves. This attack took place on 3rd January 2021 in a small town called Mach, located in southwestern Quetta in Balochistan province of Pakistan. Link to the targeted Hazaras mapped on Google Map
Today, there are hundreds of Hazara children who are unable to go to school due to lost parents. Most of these children must either work or beg to be able to support their family and continue their survival. Aikafund has mainly focused on these children by giving them the opportunity to attend primary school.
